Don't Stop The Music
Label: Decca (UMO)
Jamie Cullum has the ability to marry relentless showbiz pizzazz and a breezy vibe with serious singer-songwriter finesse. There are two jazz standards here (including a dour recasting of "If I Ruled The World"), but Cullum penned the majority of the tunes here. "Wheels," "We Run Things" and "Mixtape" show Cullum working in the thoughtful, sonically experimental sphere of Coldplay, Radiohead, Danger Mouse and Wilco, while "I'm All Over It" is a bouncing neo-soul number with Ricky Ross. This edition offers two ace bonus cuts, including Cullum's "Gran Torino" theme for his pal Clint Eastwood.
