Love Long Distance
This is Gossip's coming out party: their major label debut, their first album after becoming Kate Moss-befriending-almost-stars, and their commitment to the alt-dance (life)style. In short, this album is under a lot of pressure, which it withstands admirably. The sleek dance beats are polished to a pricier sheen and more elegantly blended with their chicken-fried roots. Even if the former garage punks don't ever hit the big time, they camp their own hype, reworking bits of bigger pop songs. The album is campy, danceable and political -- just what a fabulous coming out party should be.
