With Priscilla, JMSN regained career momentum after unsuccessful contracts with Universal Motown and Atlantic. It sticks closely to The Weeknd's alternative-R&B style of breathy vocals and electronic beats suffused in haunting echoes. He isn't an unrepentant dog like Weeknd boss Abel Tesfaye, and that's both a good and bad thing: He's an appealing singer, but his identity seems unformed so far. Priscilla is too long, but it introduces an artist with considerable promise and great songs, with "Girl (I Used to Know)," "Runaway," "Do U Remember the Time" and "Fallin'" among the best.
