Miles & Quincy Live At Montreux
Label: Rhino/Warner Records
Quincy Jones viewed Miles Davis as an idol, mentor and friend, but the two had never worked together until this transfixing concert set. Q used the occasion to pay homage to Miles' revolutionary recordings with arranger Gil Evans, from the Birth Of The Cool to Sketches Of Spain and beyond. Q expands the Gil Evans Orchestra considerably and uses Miles disciple Wallace Roney to help the seriously ailing jazz legend make it through the entire set with his head held high. The results are of a truly high caliber; sadly, Miles Davis would pass away not long after this appearance.
