Shadows OF The Night
Label: Chrysalis\EMI Records (USA)
During Pat Benatar's heyday, she was a one-woman commercial for fierce femininity, helping to flip the gender bias in late-'70s/early-'80s rock with unsentimental anthems like "Love Is a Battlefield." Flagrant and unapologetic, she turned out heated tributes to girl power before the Spice Girls ever appropriated the term. Even with her four-octave range, she showed that what you looked liked was as important as what you sounded like during the birth of MTV. But she really did have the goods, as evidenced on the a cappella breakdown of "Heartbreaker."
