Songs In The Key Of Life
Songs in the Key of Life is the fifth and final chapter of Stevie's classic era. It took two years and $1 million to finish, and it bursts at the seams with slick black pop, from jazz fusion ("Contusion") to brassy funk ("Sir Duke" and "I Wish"). Though the songs' extended lengths amplify his self-indulgence (particularly on "Black Man"), they feel necessary to understand his shaman-like genius, whether it's the six-minute tribute to his newborn daughter Aisha on "Isn't She Lovely," or the eight-minute disco "Another Star." He convinces us that this is the ultimate Wonder experience.
