Tied & True

The Detroit Cobras have always been the garage revival's most clever cover band, succeeding by digging deep into lesser-known soul cuts and letting harlot vocalist Rachel Nagy make them cook. With their fourth LP, this works as well as ever, especially on tunes like "Nothing But a Heartache" and "(I Wanna Know) What's Going On?," which suit the band's rowdy, shaggy-headed arrangements. Their take on Gino Washington's "Puppets on a String" and the Cookies' "Only to Other People" are ice-cold, highlighting the band's longstanding gift for unearthing pop nuggets from the past.
