BedRock featuring Lloyd
Label: Young Money
Most of the rappers in Young Money aren't instantly compelling as emcees, and their personalities aren't given space to shine in the group setting. Though Wayne is talented and quirky and Drake is charming enough to get away with claims that he's studying "lesbionics," the sex and weed talk from the others sounds cliched. The production, from the quasi-dramatic laser-beam synths of "Gooder" to the tinkling hi-hat minimalism of "Pass the Dutch," is similarly generic. Still, there are some jewels ("Every Girl," "Steady Mobbing"), and Weezy and Drake completists will want to give this a spin.
